The party that stops the region - Port Douglas Carnivale - is on the horizon, gearing up to make waves as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. Joining in the festivities, the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort is set to amplify the excitement.

Uniting locals and visitors, guests and friends, Café del Mar is returning to Port Douglas to bring its masterfully curated musical compilations to the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort on Saturday 25th of May.

Renowned since the 1980s for its stunning sunset soirees in places like Ibiza, Bali, and Sydney, Café del Mar will bring together great music from DJ ‘Jus Joe’, Mediterranean cuisine, cool drinks, fire artists and unbeatable vibes to the shores of the resort's Main Beach lagoon pool.

In celebration of Carnivale’s 30th anniversary, this year's Sheraton Sunset Sessions x Café Del Mar event offers ticket-holders the chance to win a trip to VIVID Sydney to experience the famous festival of light, music, ideas and food.

The lucky winner will receive return flights to Sydney from Cairns, or any major Australian east coast airport, a two-night stay at Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park and a Bottomless Long Lunch for 2 on the Rooftop at Café del Mar on Darling Harbour.

A tailored sunset experience

Ticket options to Sheraton Sunset Sessions include ‘General Admission’ with a $50 credit for food and drinks, ‘Reserved Poolside Seating’ featuring reserved beanbag seating, a tapas platter, and a bottle of bubbles, and the most exclusive option, 'Private Poolside Cabana', offering full-day use of a cabana, a premium Mediterranean food platter, and a bottle of G.H. Mumm Champagne.

To ensure accessibility for event attendees, the resort is providing complimentary return transport for Cairns residents aboard Tropic Wings’ new all-electric, zero-emissions coach. Additionally, ticket-holders keen to explore additional Carnivale events on Macrossan Street can access discounted $5 shuttle rides with SR Coaches after the conclusion of Sunset Sessions.

Sheraton Sunset Sessions x Café del Mar starts at 4.00pm on Saturday 25th of May. The Tropic Wings coach departs from Cairns Esplanade at 2.45pm and returns immediately after the event’s conclusion. For tickets click here.

Additional events

Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Port Douglas also presents two additional events in the Carnivale programme that pay homage to the local sugarcane industry.

On May 18th, guests can enjoy an ‘Italian Feast Under the Stars’ featuring a divine Italian dinner complemented by paired wines hand-selected by Frank Dangelico at The Wine Tradition NQ.

The evening will be enhanced by live opera performances by renowned tenor Adrian Strooper, as well as first-hand tales from descendants of some of the regions’ agricultural  pioneers.

On May 25th at 3.00pm, guests can enjoy a Sugar Cane Rum Masterclass led by Mark Watkins, Head Distiller and Director of Mt Uncle Distillery.

His unpretentious commentary will go down smoothly with samples of three award winning products from his FNQ Rum Co. label along with accompanying chef-prepared bites.
