Local candidates vying for a seat inside the Douglas Shire chamber will have a pivotal, final chance to press their claims during a highly anticipated open Councillor and Mayoral forum in Mossman.

The open forum will be a crucial, last chance for all candidates to clearly put forward their priorities and policies ahead of next month’s local Government elections.

The forum, hosted by Douglas Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with local news provider Newsport will be held and live streamed on Sunday March 3, from 1pm - 3pm at Mossman Sports Centre, 46-62 Front St, Mossman and be hosted by Newsport editor Michael Warren.

“We’ve taken a large amount of enquires about staging an open candidate forum in Mossman and I’m really happy to confirm the open forum in Mossman on March 3,” Michael Warren said.

“The critical aspect of this forum is that Douglas Shire residents can ask as many questions from the floor, within reason, at the prospective Councillor and Mayoral candidates as they like.

“So, if an attendee wants to ask three questions to three different candidates on the day – they can and I know the Councillor and Mayoral candidates are excited to address the issues and matters close to the heart of Douglas Shire residents.

“The upcoming Douglas Shire elections are without question probably the most critical and important in local history and there is huge local interest in next month’s local Government elections.”

Open forum format

- Each candidate to get 5 minutes to talk specifically about future policies and priorities.

- Candidates will then take questions from the floor. Attendees can only ask one question in a row. If attendees want to ask more than one question then they will need to wait until everyone else who wants to ask a question, gets to ask their question. Then, time permitting we’ll return to the people who want to ask a second question and so on.

- Attendees must at all times remain highly respectful, courteous when asking questions of the candidates. No aggression, disrespect will be tolerated on the day.

- This forum is a fully inclusive event, open to anyone who resides in the Douglas Shire.

- We are expecting a packed house so attendees are very much encouraged to get their seat early.
