The Port Douglas Crocs women had a hard-fought six-point victory on Saturday in a low-scoring affair against Cairns Saints in Cairns, winning 1.6 (12) to 0.6 (6).

Best players were Caity Walsh, Indianna Paull, Sophie Jeffrey, Grace Lanigan, Jaimi Byrne and Bree Unthank, while Unthank kicked the only goal of the match.

Port Douglas plays Trinity Bulldogs at home from 4.45pm this Saturday.

And the Port Douglas men held a persistent Cairns Saints at arm’s length all day to run out 20-point winners.

The Crocs led by 13 points at quarter time, and that margin stayed fairly consistent throughout the day in a tight affair.

The Saints were boosted by a guest appearance from former AFL 200-gamer Charlie Dixon.

Dixon, 34, who is originally from Cairns before going on to play 221 games for Port Adelaide and Gold Coast, returned to his junior club to play a game alongside his brother Jesse.

The Crocs held onto top spot with the win.

Best players were captain Ben Mcphee, Joseph Sellwood, Ryan Warfe, Jai Nanscawen, Harvey Moore and Sam Fairclough, while Warfe kicked four goals and Kye Chapple three.

This Saturday Port Douglas is at home against bottom-placed Manunda Hawks from 2pm.

Soccer

Douglas United drew 0-0 with Leichhardt at home on Friday night.

The Dragons have a bye this weekend.

Rugby league

Mossman Sharks lost away to Yarrabah Seahawks 26-40 on Sunday. 

The team is back home against Edmonton Storm this Sunday from 3pm.

Rugby union

The Reef Raiders had a bye last weekend, but play Northern Beaches Mudcrabs away this Saturday at 4pm.
