A range of Douglas Shire and Far North nominated heroes have been recognised following their service to the community in the wake of Cyclone Jasper and the flood event.

Around 100 heroes, including a number of Douglas Shire community members from Wonga Beach, Daintree Village and other locations came together at the Savannah Sounds on the Reef event to be thanked for their actions last December.

Wonga Beach’s Jim Wark and Daintree Village’s Bruce Morwood were among those that received a well earned pat on the back.

The heroes were entertained by Lee Kernaghan, Sheppard and other musical acts throughout the day.

See the video to learn more about why these community members were nominated.

Meantime, a reminder Savannah in the Round will be held later this year from October 11-13 in Mareeba.
