The Mossman Vet Surgery has moved to a new location providing top-notch animal care to the non-human residents of the Douglas Shire.

“We are not a corporate business with many satellite clinics, we are totally locally owned and run,” said Dr Susan Pasagic, owner of the vet clinic.

“This is a family business and we are here to provide a service for our community.”

The new vet surgery is at 15 Theresa Drive Mossman; a location that Dr Pasagic says provides more space and has allowed for upgraded facilities.

“We are here for responsible pet owners, so we want to ensure that all new pet owners are fully informed of the needs of their animals,” she said.

“This is a fully accredited, purpose-built clinic and it is twice the size of the previous premises. We were leasing the previous premises so now that we own these new premises it gives us greater control over the maintenance of the building.

“The facilities are state of the art, modern and inviting. We aim to provide a more pleasant experience for people when they come in, and this will put their animals more at ease as well.”

Established more than six years ago, Mossman Vet Surgery offers a full suite of services to ensure your pet is provided with the best care possible.

Along with general veterinary services, the surgery offers digital x-ray, ultrasound, on-site pathology, dental and hospital facilities.

“We always have free dental checks for animals, and our staff are always happy to assist with providing information regarding vaccines and pet health and diet,” Dr Pasagic said.

“We also have a free first check of any new puppy or kitten, so we can provide education to the new owner.”

Dr Pasagic said she loves working with the animals and owners of the area and looks forward to seeing her patients every time they come through the door.

“Treating animals can be very challenging. There are a lot of emotions that come along with owning a pet, and that is escalated when they get sick,” she said.

“The ability to provide care for an injured or sick animal, and then being able to send it back home to its family is very rewarding.

“We all go home to our own families at the end of the day, to our own pets, so we understand the emotions involved.”

The new premises will also allow the surgery to plan for future expansion, and offer more services for the pets and animals of Douglas Shire.

“Well, we hope to be able to build some boarding facilities in the future as I think the community needs more short-stay facilities for their animals, especially around tourist season,” Dr Pasagic said.

“We really do care about our community; as the vet here I work seven days a week and am I available to clients when they need me, this allows for greater continuity of care.

“We even offer after hours, to ensure people don’t have to drive all the way to Cairns for urgent treatment.

“Hopefully the community will continue to support us now we are bigger and better! We want people to come and experience this new clinic, to enjoy the atmosphere we have created. It is a beautiful environment to work in.”

The Mossman Vet Surgery is open seven days a week at the new location on Theresa Drive.
