A number of Council run services including the Mossman Pool, libraries, and public recreational areas will begin to re-open to the community.

The Douglas Shire Council has said it will follow the Queensland Government’s ‘Roadmap to Easing QLD’s Restrictions’, as a guide to bringing normality back to the region.

Douglas Shire Council CEO Mark Stoermer said the return of Council services would be a staged and measured approach.

“Council will carefully take each step in line with the latest health advice,” he said.

“It is important that our customers and staff maintain good hygiene practices, keep 1.5 metres away from others and stay home if you feel sick.”

Playgrounds and Exercise Equipment

  • All have reopened in line with the latest Federal Government health advice. Social distancing and good hygiene is urged.

Mossman Pool

  • The pool will reopen on Monday 18 May 2020
  • Opening hours: 7:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday and 8:00am to 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday
  • Open for 10 customers at one time, by appointment and 1 hour time slot, multiple hourly time slots available if required
  • Communal showers and change rooms are closed, toilets will remain open.
  • Commercial lane hire available via appointment only
  • All bookings can be made by calling 0417 768 266
  • Customers will be increased to 20 on 12 June 2020, as per Government staged easing of restrictions

Active8 Program

  • Online programs still operating via live streaming. Information can be found via Council’s website https://douglas.qld.gov.au/active8/ 
  • Council will re-launch the park-based programs once 20 participants are permitted.

Port Douglas Markets

  • Council will review the ability to hold the Port Douglas Markets in the future in line with the latest Federal Government health advice.

Customer Service Centres

  • Council is reviewing the guidelines and looking at ways to re-open in a reduced capacity on Monday 25 May.

Mossman Library

  • Reopens on Monday 18 May 2020
  • Only 10 customers inside at any time for a maximum of 30 mins
  • Staff will monitor customer numbers
  • Will close earlier for cleaning each day
  • No device recharging available
  • Wi-Fi outside the library only
  • Only two public-use computers available. Bookings essential (30min only). Call 4099 9496
  • Customers will be increased to 20 on 12 June 2020, as per Government staged easing of restrictions

Port Douglas Library

  • Reopens on Monday 18 May 2020
  • Only two customers inside at any time for a maximum of 30 minutes
  • Will close earlier for cleaning purposes each day
  • No device recharging available
  • Reading room unavailable
  • Staff will monitor customer numbers
  • Only one public use computer available. Bookings essential (30min only). Call 4099 9496

Mossman Caravan Park

  • Will remain open for permanent residents
  • Accepting new park bookings from 12 June 2020 as per Government staged easing of restrictions
