At just 28 years of age, local Mitch Williams, has achieved a career-long goal of becoming a principal of an accounting firm, one of the youngest to do so at SiDCOR Accountants.

The ambitious young accountant has been promoted to Managing Principal of the Port Douglas & Mossman offices and credits his strong passion for business advisory services and ability to develop strong relationships with his clients as the key to his success.

“I was lucky to have brilliant mentors early in my career who taught me the importance of building relationships with clients built on trust, empathy and communication,” he said.

Mitch began his career in Albury NSW as an undergraduate with Findex in 2010. Whilst working full time, he completed a Bachelor of Business (Major in Accounting) at Charles Sturt University.

In April 2016, he relocated to Cairns and took up the position of Manager with MGI in Port Douglas/Mossman. From this point, he has now become a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), Registered Tax Agent and a Public Practice Certificate holder.

MGI was acquired by SiDCOR in February 2017 which opened another chapter in the firm’s long history. The practice was established over 50 years ago and was called Cockrell Reese which long term locals may recall. 25 years later Kevin Roe and Nick Watson joined the firm with Marg Everett joining five years later. In 2000, the firm rebranded to MGI North Queensland.

SiDCOR Group was ranked 42nd in the Financial Review’s Top 100 Accounting Firms in the country in 2019 and has 120 staff spread across Newcastle, Gold Coast, Cairns, Port Douglas and Mossman.

“I am thrilled to be promoted to Managing Principal of Port Douglas & Mossman, which is part of a highly successful and progressive firm,” Mitch said.

“There is enormous talent in the SiDCOR Group which we can leverage here in our Port Douglas and Mossman offices. This allows us to provide the highest quality services despite the relatively small size of our local operations.”

SiDCOR employs 12 staff between its Port Douglas and Mossman offices and offers extensive services including:

  • Tax Compliance
  • Asset Protection
  • Business advice & strategy
  • Management Reporting including cashflow advice
  • Cloud Accounting and related cloud business products
  • Self-Managed Super Funds
  • Audit
  • Estate Planning

“We pride ourselves on providing exemplary service to our clients. Our staff leverage their local knowledge, experience and the wealth of specialist knowledge in the SiDCOR group to ensure we are providing high-quality advice to our clients.”

In recent months, the accounting industry has been critical in the roll-out of the government's various economic stimulus measures along with providing advice to clients on how to navigate their business through the worst of the pandemic to emerge on the other side.

“I have a strong passion for helping people understand the numbers behind their business which in turn helps business owners define what success looks like to them,” Mitch said.

“My aim is to equip my clients with the knowledge, systems and confidence to chase their success. Now more than ever, it's important for business owners to have an accountant they can lean on for advice and support.”

The previous managing partner of the business, Margaret Everett, strongly endorsed the promotion.

“Mitch has had an enormous impact on the firm over the last four years.

“He has shown a very strong work ethic and very strong technical skills but most importantly, he shows genuine care for his clients. This has allowed me to transition clients to Mitch with a great level of confidence,” Margaret said.
