For those who have missed the feeling of eating out at a restaurant, Pasta e Vino has the answer for you, introducing Port Douglas’s first virtual dinner.

Having opened their doors during COVID-19 restrictions, Pasta e Vino has only been able to run as a takeaway and has missed being able to connect with customers and see them enjoy their food.

So, they have decided to create a virtual dining room with locals able to order their food in advance and eat together via a chat room with up to 50 video streams.

Aron Michielli from Pasta e Vino said the idea to hold the virtual dinner was about creating a fun way for their customers to ‘dine in’.

“People can join in and be part of our first dinner together. We can connect, watch the cooking, and be in the virtual dining room with fellow residents having dinner,” he said.

“We want people to be able to share the experience from a safe distance.”

The virtual dinner is this Friday, 8 May and will kick off at 3:00pm with a live Facebook stream of the food being cooked before serving begins at 6:30pm.

“For dinner, you can have a generous piece of suckling pig cooked on a spit with roast potato for $33 per person or you can have a two-course set menu starting with garlic focaccia, suckling pig, and a bottle of wine for $99 for two people, available for pick up or home delivery,” Mr Michielli said.

He added that the idea to live stream the cooking was born from wanting to show people what goes into their food so they can get a better understanding and appreciation of it.

“You can watch the whole process of us cooking, cutting, and serving it to you live,” he said.

A wine expert will join the virtual dinner and speak about the wines on offer at Pasta e Vino and Mr Michielli said he is organising local musicians to be the night’s entertainment.

Pasta e Vino opened their doors last month after many months of planning only to be restricted to takeaway thanks to COVID-19 restrictions.

“It's very tough since opening and we are very thankful for the local support, it gives us the motivation to continue.

“We want to be a restaurant not just a home delivery and take away service so we're just trying to find a way to be what we want to be through this virtual dining room,” Mr Michielli said.
