Police have spent the day searching for a man believed to be missing in waters off Port Douglas.

The 59-year-old man was reported missing by a family member on Friday, 1 May.

The man lives on a yacht in the Dickson Inlet and has not been in contact with his family which is out of character.

It is believed the man may have suffered a medical episode and fallen from the pontoon into the water.

The search was suspended and will resume Tuesday morning due to the tides.
