In a novel initiative targeting visitors who are planning to visit the region within the next six months, a Guide has been prepared to help inform visitor expectations before their arrival to the Douglas Shire.

The region’s tourism arm, Tourism Port Douglas Daintree (TPDD), in conjunction with the Douglas Chamber of Commerce, have launched the Guide which will be of benefit to those planning on visiting the shire.

“With high visitation expected for the months ahead, TPDD has developed pre-arrival messaging for you to share, if you choose, with incoming guests to help prepare them for their time here.

“In response to frustrations from several TPDD members, the attached letter from TPDD is for people who have booked travel to the region to help them understand the constraints we are operating under and how best to prepare for a memorable holiday,” said the Chamber in a statement.

The Chamber said it is acutely aware of the labour shortage and the strain it's placing on everyone's business with a large number of visitors here now and expected for the months ahead.

“The labour shortage is being experienced throughout Australia with many destinations sharing our challenges.”

The statement said the key advice is that the situation is being felt throughout Australia, and is a direct result of COVID-19 displacing our traditional workforce and is not business as usual for the region.

“We understand you may have your own pre-arrival messaging or wish to adopt this yourself.

“Please don’t feel obligated to use the letter; it is here to assist you in managing the visitor experience. If you do choose to make use of the messaging we recommend sending this as an automated response to bookings received and any currently held that are arriving in the coming six months.”
