In a crippling low blow, Marina boat owners have been slugged with a four per cent increase to their berthing rates effective 1 October 2021.

In a letter to the owners, which has been made available to Newsport, and written by Administration, Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina, it said:

“We are writing to advise you that we will be increasing our berthing rates from 1st October 2021. This is a particularly difficult decision for us to take in light of the challenging times we are all facing due to the current and ongoing pandemic. However we do note that the last rate increase occurred in 2019 and the Marina’s fixed costs such as Insurance and Council Rates continue to significantly increase.

“In line with current Government Consumer Price Index information we will be increasing the Marina Berth Rates by 4% on 1st October 2021. It should be noted that the last price increase was two years ago and is in line with current CPI levels for this period. Furthermore, many of the Marina’s own costs have increased by a higher percentage over this period.

“We remain committed to invest in the Marina on a regular basis and this investment and daily maintenance will allow us to continue to provide the high level of service and amenities to our Marina tenants.

“If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to contact our office on 07 4099 5775.”

With an already struggling tourism industry, this could not have come at a worse time and those who contacted Newsport said they were horrified with this decision.

Newsport
will provide reaction to this decision tomorrow.
