Port Douglas Road is closed in both directions after an accident on the corner at Langley Road caused a spill of an unknown substance.

The two-car incident out the front of Silkari Lagoons saw the driver of each car taken to Mossman Hospital with minor injuries.

One of the vehicles was still unmoved on its side an hour after the incident and belongs to a pool maintenance business with visible substance spillage on the road.

The road is still closed and may be for some time according to Port Douglas Police Sergeant Damien Meadows.

“At this stage Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are still trying to contain and identify the substance and until they do the road will remain closed.

Meadows is asking motorists to please be patient and use alternative routes.

“We appreciate this is a bit of an inconvenience but if everyone can please use the detour down St Crispins Ave that would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!
