The Mossman community is on the receiving end of a number of exciting developments which includes ‘new Beginnings for Mossman Kindergarten’, with building works to commence on a new outdoor playground design plan; and free kindy for four-year old kids.

Cairns-based Andrew McLean, the Creche and Kindergarten (C&K) Early Childhood Education Consultant for Far North Queensland, said he is excited about the project for many reasons.

“C&K has invested $160,000 in the building and facilities upgrade that will include a beautiful new adventure playground, and another shaded, multipurpose area.

“I am excited to see how the children will explore and play in the new playground. It has been incredible collecting their ideas and contributions to what the upgrades could look like.

“I know that when we reopen after the Christmas break in 2022, they will be thrilled to use the new hand-pump to pump their own water for water play in the sandpit and to sing, dance and perform for each other on the new raised platform,” he said.

And in what is a significant boost to the community, Mossman Community Kindergarten has been selected by the Queensland Government to offer free kindergarten to all eligible- aged children in 2022, who turn four-years-old by 30 June, 2022.

McLean said this is a wonderful opportunity for more children to learn through play and grow to their full potential, as we nurture each child's individual strengths and allow them opportunities to explore, experiment, express their creativity and solve problems.

“I am excited about the impact of free kindy for the Mossman area. We hear from local prep teachers that children who have attended our kindergarten find the transition to school much easier.

“They are already confident learners and have had opportunities to develop the lifelong skills of curiosity, cooperation and making friends," he said.

Since 1907, C&K has provided over one million Queensland children with high-quality early education and care. With over 330 kindergartens and childcare centres, C&K is proudly not-for-profit, putting children first in everything they do.
