A car has smashed into the side of a Port Douglas hostel in the early hours of this morning.

At around 3:00am a silver Subaru crashed into the side of the Coral Beach Lodge in Port Douglas.

The manager of the Coral Beach Lodge, Ray Jameson, said it appears the car was travelling down Mudlo Street before losing control.

“It has sheared off a coconut palm and ploughed into the side of the building,” he said.

“No one was in the room at the time, we are very fortunate.”

The lodge is now assessing just how much damage the incident has caused.

“There’s a fair bit of damage, we will see what comes of it, it needs to be cleared and made safe, then we can assess further.

“We definitely need a new pool fence,” he said.

Emergency services responded to the accident; however, Mr Jameson said there didn't appear to be any injuries.

“Surprisingly no one was hurt, it could have been very bad.”

A Port Douglas Police Spokesperson said it is still an ongoing investigation including into how many people were in the vehicle.

“We believe at this stage that there were no injuries, but we are still making enquires,” the spokesperson said.

“It appears for some reason the driver lost control and the car ended up where it is.”
