Call of the Running Tide is one of eight recipients across Far North Queensland to be awarded grants under the Regional Arts Fund Recovery program.

Port Douglas Artists Inc. has received a cash injection of $27,000 for this unique event which attracted more than 6,000 visitors in 2019, its inaugural year.

The funding will be delivered under the $10 million targeted measure announced by the Australian Government in 2020 as part of the Relief and Recovery Fund.

Call of the Running Tide Environmental Sculpture and Multimedia Festival 2021 will be held in Port Douglas and Mossman from 15 September to 1 October.

The inaugural CRT was held for 10 days at indoor and outdoor Port Douglas and Mossman sites in October 2019.

In 2019, 30 artists supported and guided by an experienced curator, created spectacular and thought-provoking sculptures, multimedia art, night time projections and installations that responded to the unique environment of Queensland’s Far North: its beauty and threats.

The festival attracted 6,000 visitors and had widespread acclaim from the local community, intrastate, interstate and international visitors.

Call of the Running Tide 2021 aims to be bigger than its inaugural event.

Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch said the eight successful recipients would share in $226,108 to stage various projects and events across the region.

“I am extremely pleased these eight recipients have successfully secured Regional Arts Fund Recovery grants, enabling them to assist our community to heal and rebuild through the arts,” Mr Entsch said.

“I have always been a big supporter of the local arts community in the cities and towns across my electorate.
“These projects are now more important than ever in assisting our community to heal and rebuild.” The Douglas Shire is a part of the Leichhardt electorate.
