The Iron Bar has been a staple of Port Douglas nightlife since the early 90s and now it is set to re-establish itself as a live music and special events venue.

After quickly etching itself onto the local food scene with its recent transition to a premium steakhouse, the Iron Bar is now adding regular special events to its calendar.

The events will range from hospitality parties to renowned DJs, with plans to run around two per month.

On event nights the Iron Bar will open till 2:00am with the main entertainment kicking off between 10:30 and 11:00pm.

The first event booked in is a Latin Party on Thursday 29 July.

“We are hoping to have different events to cater for the whole market, we will have some DJ nights, some hospitality nights, some on weekends and some during the week,” Iron Bar owner Shane Loughnan said.

“I am not closed to anything; we will have different styles of things at different times.

“Special events will be ticketed, either online or on the door, to allow for a high calibre event and quality named acts.

“As times have changed, the venue has also changed and matured along the way, and we hope this new concept will add an exciting new quality offering to Port Douglas.”

On top of the special events, bands will also play live music on Friday and Saturday nights until midnight, starting this Saturday with local band Grand Theft Audio. On band nights there will be no cover charge or lockout, dress regulations do apply.

“This will be the first time a band has played at the Iron Bar in 18 months, so it’s pretty exciting to have live music back," Mr Loughnan said.

“The Iron bar was created as a live band venue, and it will be great to see different types of music come through the venue.”

Mr Loughnan encouraged the community to keep an eye on the Iron Bar website and Facebook to see which bands will be hitting the stage and when special events will be scheduled.

“By creating these special events we can give you good quality acts, and really make it special and something people can get excited about and look forward to.

“We want to offer good entertainment and I really think the town needs something like this,” he said.
