The iconic Silky Oaks Lodge near Mossman has had to delay its re-opening as it prepares to showcase its $15million refurbishment.

Originally scheduled to open in September last year, the property will now re-open on 1 November this year.

“Given challenges from weather and the ongoing pandemic, the property will now reopen in November,” said a spokesperson for Baillie Lodges, who assumed ownership of the property in April 2019.

In their statement, Baillie Lodges said the $15million refurbishment of Tropical North Queensland (TNQ) luxury bolthole Silky Oaks Lodge has been extended following unseasonal weather conditions in the region during the crucial early stages of construction.

Baillie Lodges Chief Operating Officer Craig Bradbery said there was a great deal of excitement about the reimagined Silky Oaks Lodge reported from the travel industry, media and travellers alike.

“We’re just thrilled to be bringing a new super-premium product to Tropical North Queensland at a time when Aussie travellers are discovering the incredible experiences on offer in their own country. And of course we’re looking forward to welcoming international guests back to experience the destination as soon as it’s possible.

“We believe Silky Oaks Lodge will deliver a new era of experiential luxury in the region and will offer a great complement to existing TNQ luxury lodges including Lizard Island and Mt Mulligan Lodge. We’re already talking with our industry contemporaries around putting together shared itineraries for a high-end discovery of the tropical north, with Cairns as the natural hub,” he said.

Set adjacent to the World Heritage-listed wilderness of the Daintree National Park and along the banks of the gently flowing Mossman River, Silky Oaks Lodge offers guests a stylish rainforest escape, with experiences spanning river-snorkelling, driving safaris, Indigenous guided walks, the lodge’s own Healing Waters Spa and access to Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef.

Inclusive rates, premium suites, contemporary finishes and a more stylish experience of the Daintree are all part of the works.

Baillie Lodges is an intimate portfolio of luxury lodges setting new benchmarks for premium experiential travel. Set in exclusive locations of unique natural or cultural significance, the boutique properties appeal to the discerning global traveller seeking a remarkable experience. The Australia-based collection was founded in 2003 by James and Hayley Baillie.
