Local butcher snags gold

Malone's Butchery has been crowned sausage and burger king after taking out a slew of awards.

The Port Douglas butchery recently went up against talented butchers from around Tropical North Queensland coming home with four medals from the Australian Meat Industry Council Regional Sausage King competition.

Malone’s took out gold in the Best Butchers Beef Burger category for its Smokey Malone Beef Brisket and the Australian Lamb category for its Moroccan Preserved Lemon and Date.

Malone’s was also awarded silver for their Traditional Australian Beef and their Chicken Bacon Cheese and Jalapeño.

Operations Manager and butcher Greig Rodgers said it is the businesses first award of this type.

“It’s the first award for Malone’s and it feels good.

“The team has done a great job; it was a good group effort.”

The meat was marked on its appearance, consistency and of course, its flavour and Mr Rogers said it is that quality and consistency that sets Malone’s apart.

“Our meat tastes good every time.

“We use all fresh local meant, grass-fed, gluten-free and all hand made.

“I know they’re good and now I’ve got proof,” he laughed.

“It’s good for a small butcher to get recognition for selling good quality meats and we take a lot of pride in our products.”

Mr Rodgers said the team and Malone’s qualified chef create the huge array of different flavours on offer in their meats.

“We just come up with some crazy creations and together pick out the ones we enjoy best,” he said.

Malone’s winning meat will now head off to the state finals in Brisbane later this year.

“We are looking forward to going to finals,” Mr Rodgers said.
