Christmas events schedule
Douglas Shire Council, Douglas Chamber of Commerce and community groups have again teamed up to prepare a program of festive events to boost spirits to see out 2021.
Christmas carols at picturesque Rex Smeal Park in Port Douglas and the return of the popular Douglas Street Christmas Party in Mossman headline the jolly calendar of events.
Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said December in Douglas would be another fantastic month for the community.
“Christmas is always a very joyous and special time of the year for our community,” he said.
“Anyone who went to the Douglas Street Christmas Party last year can attest that it was an absolute hit for Mossman and surrounds.”
“Through the Clink Theatre, we are also very excited to bring Carols by Candlelight to Rex Smeal Park for the first time.”
All these wonderful events are made possible by the ongoing and generous support of community minded businesses in the Douglas Shire. We would like to thank them all and ask that you show them your support during the year.

Thursday 25 November – Mayor’s Christmas Appeal Lunch at Salsa Bar and Grill.
From 12pm – A salivating 4 course menu will set the tone for an afternoon of Christmas cheer in support of a wonderful local cause – last year the event helped contribute to the more than $10,000 raised for the Christmas Appeal.

Sunday 5 December – Church Carols (Mossman)
From 5pm, traditional carols at Church of St. David in Mossman – celebrating the spirit of Christmas.
Wednesday 8 December – Twilight Markets under the raintrees, Mossman
From 5pm – The Mossman Christmas night markets return under the raintrees. The much-loved locals’ market will feature 28 art and craft stalls selling an array of locally handcrafted gifts and five food vans with a range of delicacies. Experience the magical Christmas spirit under the beautiful lights at the night market.
Friday 10 December – Santa at the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina
Save the date and bring the kids down for Santa photos.
Friday 17 December – Douglas Street Christmas Party – Mossman
6pm to 10pm – Front street Mossman comes to life as the community come out to celebrate the joy and fun of Christmas in its own unique way.
Food Stalls | Market Stalls | Entertainment
A celebration of the season and a fun family friendly event with a little something for everyone.
Front Street Mossman will be closed to traffic and open for the biggest street party of the year, where you can grab a last-minute present, enjoy a bite, and share in the community spirit of the Douglas Shire.
Saturday 18 December – Carols by Candlelight in Rex Smeal Park
Time: 6pm to 8pm

Sunday 19 December – Port Douglas Markets Cotter’s Christmas Spectacular
Santa will be roaming, the choir will be delighting, and performers will be parading.
The winner of the Ultimate Cotter’s Christmas Hamper will be drawn, and there will also be a special competition judged by Mayor Michael Kerr for the best decorated stall on the day!
Friday 31 December -New Year’s Eve celebrations
Join us in welcoming 2022 with a BANG.
Dixie inlet in Port Douglas will be the place to be with two huge fireworks displays: the family friendly time of 8pm and then the traditional Midnight show. The family fun starts from 5:30 pm with Ace DJ dropping the tunes at the UV GLOW Kids Disco up until the 8pm fireworks. Free face painting and prizes.
Dress up in your FLUORO best and get into the GLOWING light show, get your New Year’s off to a fun start. Then in the lead up to midnight, head into town and find yourself a somewhere nice to celebrate before the traditional Midnight Fireworks Display light up the skies as we all look forward to better days in 2022.
