Little Athletes heading to the Queensland State Championships

On October 9th, Cassowary Coast Athletics hosted the Nordic Sport Tropical North Regional championship.
Little Athletes from across the Tropical North Region competed for a chance to qualify for the State Championships, being held in Brisbane in March next year.
Three children representing areas around the local shire have successfully qualified for multiple events, after a very successful competition season.
Zamirah Wild, 10 and Parker and Hudson Lee, 8, have competed in multiple events held across North Queensland this year.
Zamirah has represented both Miallo Primary school and the Port Douglas Little Athletics club in competition with Athletics North Qld and Little Athletics Queensland.
A confident regionals performance in the under 11 age group has seen her qualify for five events, placing in the top three for all, in both track and field and locking in her place to compete in the State championship.
Parker and Hudson have been extremely successful in their first competitive season, running for Cairns Athletics in the ANQ season and as remote athletes for the continuing Little Athletics competition.
After successful competitions In Townsville and Cairns earlier this year, the twins were lucky enough to be added to a team coached by Wally Plath of Peak Performance Track team, along with some other up and coming junior athletes from the region, including kids from Cooktown to Townsville.
Parker and Hudson competed in three events in the regional competition and placed first and second respectively, in each track event, securing a State Championship bid for all three events.
Whilst the State Championships are a few months away, the three will continue regular training together, as the level of competition steps up when they face junior athletes from around the state.
