Newell Beach boat ramp will soon be an all-tide boating facility following the awarding of a $2.36 million construction contract.

In a statement, Member for Cook Cynthia Lui said Queensland company Australian Marine and Civil has been awarded the contract.

“Queensland-based business AMC is a leader in the marine infrastructure industry, having successfully completed many projects across the state," Ms Lui said.

“This is a timely announcement ensuring works get underway in the final months of the year as we promised, supporting local jobs and boaties.

The design features a new, two-lane, boat ramp with a central fixed walkway and includes a fishing platform for shore-based anglers.

“The walkway is best-suited to the site conditions at Newell Beach, primarily to offset wave exposure, but it will be able to also withstand severe weather events such as cyclones,” Ms Lui said.

Community consultation with locals will happen at 5pm Monday 20 September at Mossman Boat and Fishing Club – 33 Rankin Street, Newell Beach. Topics of discussion will include the construction schedule and any likely traffic impacts. It is expected that work will begin shortly afterwards.

The boat ramp and jetty will be closed for the duration of the works, as well as part of the carpark. The project is due for completion mid-next year weather permitting.

Alternative boat ramp access is available at Cooya Beach, Dayman Point (Rocky Point), Daintree River and Port Douglas.
