After entering the regional Queensland energy market in May this year, the new energy retailer is now helping small businesses and large residential premises to save on energy costs.

Port Douglas local Dean Scadding is regional Queensland manager for NBE. He started working for the retailer in May when he decided it was about time to help small businesses to save money on their electricity bills.

“This decision coincided with the change in regulations for Far North Queensland by the Australian Energy Regulator,” he said.

Until May this year, there had been little opportunity for small businesses to choose other energy retailers in Far North Queensland.

Established in 2014, Next Business Energy supplies more than 14000 customers spread over Queensland, New South Wales, the Australia Capital Territory, Victoria and South Australia.

Mr Scadding said that their focus lies on “holiday rental owners who end up having a high energy bill due to guests leaving the air conditioning on all day and night or a pool heater that’s running all winter.”

“If you have an ABN number and spend over 500 dollars a quarter, Next Business Energy can help,” he explains.

Having lived in Port Douglas for several years Mr Scadding noticed a lot of his friends and associates were sick of paying higher prices for electricity. “There were no options to choose from, now there’s competition. These days it’s more important than ever to reduce overheads.

“Reducing operating costs could mean the difference between profit or loss for a small business. Our aim is to provide the most competitive rates in the market and offer a free 24/7 online energy insights portal which allows customers to track their usage, view billing history and set alerts to let customers know if they are using more electricity than usual.”
