The noise of thundering hooves as they gallop up the track matched with the colours of the region next month sees the return of spring racing.

The Cairns Amateurs Carnival (8 to 10 September 2022), one of the Turf Clubs jewels in its crown and it has added further glamour in crowning one of Australia’s most stylish and award-winning Fashions on the Field competitor and sought-after judge, Emma Scodellaro as 2022 Carnival Ambassador.

The epitome of elegance, she spoke to Newsport.

“I’m looking for something WOW!” Ms Scodellaro said.

“Something we haven’t seen before – something unique, different and that suits the person.

“Cairns Amateurs there will be a lot of colour because that’s what it is all about – and I hope to see that as well.”

Emma began competing in FOTF in 2009 with her signature style securing wins in ‘Lady of the Day’ on numerous occasions with highlights of her career coming with winning the Longines Award for Elegance at Flemington Racecourse, securing a sash at Flemington Racecourse during the Melbourne Cup Carnival and winning Country Racing Victoria's overall

'Best Dressed' competition in 2013 following a second placing in 2012.

“I diversify a lot! I guess I am classic race wear, but I am more style driven rather than trend driven.”

She is honoured to fly the flag for Cairns Amateurs Carnival 2022 and is looking forward to visiting the tropical Far North after two years of pandemic related travel restrictions.

“I absolutely love Cairns and the Cairns Amateurs, and I cannot wait to get back up there in my role as ambassador and Fashions on the Field judge. I am truly honoured,” she said.

Ms Scodellaro first visited Cairns Amateurs Carnival in 2019 as guest Fashions on the Field (FOTF) judge.

Cairns Amateurs Carnival’s event manager Victoria Jennings said they are thrilled to announce Emma as this year’s ambassador which is a responsibility that along with promoting the fun, fashion, and racing of Far North Queensland’s iconic event, includes being one of four guest judges deciding the most stylish entrants in this year’s hotly contested FOTF competition.

“Em is not only stunning and successful, but she is also a warm and engaging person who lifts and inspires others and for this reason she is perfectly suited to the role of Carnival Ambassador,” Ms Jennings said.

Along with her passion for Australia’s racing industry and winning looks both on and off the field, Ms Scodellaro cites her digital platform, It’s All About the Sash, as her greatest achievement.

“I created It’s All About the Sash to be a supportive, inclusive platform for likeminded others, which has been embraced for promoting friendship, sharing ideas and its catalogue of winning competitors at home and abroad.

“This is pretty much the ‘go to’ page or platform for anyone who is interested in racing fashion, and it is something I am really proud of,” Ms Scodellaro said.

She will sit in judgment during the Carnival’s race days on Friday, September 9 and Saturday, September 10.

Gold Class Ladies Racewear and Open Ladies Racewear will be decided on Friday and Best Dressed Couple, Open Ladies Classic Racewear, Open Men’s Racewear and Open Ladies Contemporary Racewear on Saturday.
