A Port Douglas street was blocked for hours yesterday when a tree was deemed to be in a dangerous overhanging position.

There were safety concerns surrounding the large tree in Nautilus Street, close to Paradise Links Resort.

Tree removal company MPDT was in charge of the operation.

It's thought the recent heavy rains finally caused the tree to start leaning out over the busy street.

Nautilus Street in previous years has been at the centre of debate regarding poor lighting and insufficient room for cyclists.
