Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr is warning against complacency but says we will get through the current wave of positive tests in the Douglas Shire.

There has been a number of cases, but the numbers are not available.

“Given the rising number of cases, we’re unable to continue to provide detailed information on individual cases, clusters and exposure venues, including data breakdowns, beyond what may be provided at the daily Chief Health Officer press conferences or on the Queensland Health website.

“To seek to do so would pull our contact tracers and health experts off the important public health work they are doing for the pandemic response,” said a spokesperson for Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service.

Kerr today issued the following message to residents and visitors to Douglas Shire:

“As anticipated once the borders were opened, Covid-19 would arrive.

“I believe what is extremely important is to assist the hospitals and medical professions by doing our part in ensuring it works its way through the community at a rational pace and not inundate the region through complacency.

“Continue to social distance, wear masks, work from home if you can and most importantly if you have any symptoms isolate and stay isolated for the days that are recommended.

“We will make it through this and when we get to the other side hopefully have some normality again.”
