Police in the state’s far north are coordinating a land and air search for a woman missing in the remote Wenlock River area.

The 27-year-old from Verrierdale and her male companion were travelling from Lockhart on the Pascoe Farm track, heading towards Telegraph Road when their vehicle became stuck at the Pascoe River Crossing yesterday (Sunday, June 27).

The pair managed to free the vehicle after several hours but were unable to cross the river. The woman decided to walk a shorter path/track, heading west towards Wenlock River, instead of the longer drive, and was last seen around 1pm.

She was reported missing to police last night when she failed to arrive at Wenlock River.

Acting Inspector Peter Williamson, Cape Patrol Group said at this time it is believed the woman is between the two river crossings, Pascoe River and Wenlock River.

“Police from Lockhart River and Weipa, along with SES personnel with conduct land searches today, with aerial support from a helicopter.”

The woman is described as Caucasian, approximately 170cms tall with long blonde hair and was wearing black shorts, a blue shirt and a hat.
