INDULGE LOCALLY

When it comes to a superior scoop, we’ve got some of the best places to go to in our small Shire. The following local ice cream shops carefully source their ingredients for an artisanal ice cream experience.
SWEET SUCCESS
Get ready to indulge your taste buds at Choo Choos Ice Creamery. Their partnership with Peters Australia means you can enjoy the Connoisseur range of premium ice creams in flavours like Caramel Honey Macadamia, Boysenberry Swirl, and Belgian Chocolate.
Plus, try their mouth-watering Pistachio Gelato and refreshing Raspberry Sorbet. It's no wonder they were voted the best ice cream in 2016 - it's a must-visit spot for families seeking a sweet treat.
But that's not all - Choo Choos Ice Creamery also serves up coffee specialties all day until 5.30pm. And, if you're a fan of frozen yoghurt, you're in luck! They're excitedly awaiting the delivery of their new soft-serve machine next week. It’s the perfect place to satisfy your sweet tooth.
TASTING TRADITION
Shakes Gelati Bar Port Douglas has been operating for almost 19 years since April, with a small Italian family business supplying our ingredients since day one.
The shop has changed ownership three times since March 2004, but their passion for true Italian ice cream remains.
The shop’s flavours are made from scratch using mangoes from Far North QLD, macadamias, Australian sugar, and milk from Brisbane.
Their bestsellers include salted caramel, cookies and cream, macadamia white chocolate, and the market's best mango sorbet.
TROPICAL INDULGENCE
Daintree Ice Cream Company offers sustainable and ethical food production practices. The fruit is organically grown and the trees are naturally irrigated by tropical rainfall. Ice cream, gelatos, and sorbets are all handcrafted on-site using the finest local ingredients and classic artisanal methods.
No syrups, packet mixes, or artificial sweeteners are used, allowing the sweetness of the fresh, exotic fruit to shine. The Tropical Fruit Orchard contains over 15 rare and exotic fruit tree species, as well as dedicated revegetation and wildlife rehabilitation areas.
The orchard is located in the heart of the World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest, offering an opportunity to explore the magnificent native flora and fauna while indulging in a tropical twist on a traditional dessert.
A SWEET SPOT
Artisanal Italian gelato, that’s what Wicked Sweet Spot in Port Douglas is all about.
The gelato and sorbets are made fresh daily by owners David and Michelle to traditional Italian methods.
One of their secrets, as told by Michelle, is using biodynamic farm milk from local Tableland herds to give the gelato that richness and creamy mouth feel.
Also, directly from the farms of Tablelands best fruit producers, David collects the freshest ripe fruit for their sorbets.
For their award-winning chocolate flavour the couple uses a cacao powder-mix of unique blends from the Amazon rainforest cultivations.
ARTISANAL GELATO DELIGHT
Capannini in Port Douglas offers a wide variety of flavours, including old favourites and unique adventures. You can't go wrong with an all-time favourite like lemon and basil. The gelato is made with Mungalli milk and a whole lot of love, following the authentic Italian recipe.
If you're not in the mood for ice cream, you can try their delicious Italian desserts or a cup of coffee. But trust us, you won't want to miss out on their creamy and smooth ice cream, where the flavours truly shine.
