Couple’s cassowary sightings inspire awe
CASSOWARIES ENCOUNTER

A local couple have been thanked for sharing pictures and video on social media of their sighting of a pair of cassowaries near Cape Tribulation.
The couple spotted the colourful big birds after they stopped for a roadside barbeque at Emmagen Creek, a few kilometres up the road from Cape Trib at the weekend.
Facebook user ‘Mate Mate’ posted: “Well! Today at Emmagen Ck past Cape tribulation we had a BBQ on the side of the road, while cooking we had a couple of visitors join us so special.”
A short video he and his partner took showed a pair of cassowaries on the road, while a separate picture featured one on its own.
Other local users commented that the couple were “very fortunate” and that to see two cassowaries together was “absolute magic.”
“Yes! I told my wife I’ll find her a cassowary, to see 2 together was very lucky,” Mate Mate said.
“Yes unfortunately they are not as abundant, due to locals going up there with dogs disturbing the nests as we were told by a ranger,” was another response.
Other responses followed.
“Seven years we have been up for a stay excepting Covid years. Never once seen one!”
“You’re very lucky.”
“Got stopped once by one crossing the road ..how lucky to see two cant beat the smell of a bbq to entice them out.”
“Wow how lucky!!! Thank you for sharing.”

Thank you!
