EXCLUSIVE: POTENTIAL BREAKTHROUGH: Leg bone discovered after January 6 disappearance of woman at Mossman Gorge
NEW SEARCH

There’s been a potential major development in relation to a 55-year-old Victorian woman who disappeared while visiting Mossman Gorge around 2pm on January 6 this year.
Police dive squad personnel and others will conduct an intensive search of Mossman Gorge waters over the next 48 hours after a member of the public alerted Police to the discovery of a bone while swimming at the popular location a short time ago.
“I can confirm what appears to be a leg bone was located at the Gorge in recent days, as such Police divers and others will commence a search and recovery mission as a result of this discovery,” Mossman Police, Officer-In-Charge and Sergeant Matthew Smith told Newsport.
“We’re hoping this search will assist us in locating a tourist who went missing at the Gorge earlier in the year.
“Further to that, ultimately through the search we’re focused on hopefully being in a position to offer some potential closure to the family.”
Mossman Gorge had experienced days of heavy, consistent rain in the lead up to the woman’s disappearance which made any swimming or viewing of the waterhole extremely dangerous.
An ensuing 10-day search which involved a combination of the rescue helicopter, QPS Police divers, DES and SES volunteers, drone technology and Swift Water rescue searchers failed to locate the woman. The official search was called off on January 16.
