Santa Claus heads for Hemingway’s this weekend
CHRISTMAS UPLIFT

The Captain Cook Highway might be closed but that can’t stop the jolly man in red from visiting all the good boys and girls in Port Douglas.
In a heart-warming gesture to spread holiday cheer, Santa Claus is set to make a special appearance at Hemingway’s Brewery this weekend offering free photos and a magical experience for those who had initially planned to travel to Cairns to meet him.
Organised by local father Matt Laskey alongside the Douglas Shire Council, Mr Laskey said the idea came about when he realised his own children wouldn’t get a chance to meet Santa this year.
“My kids were devastated that they weren’t going to get to see the Big Man this year and it made me realise that so many other children in the region would be feeling the same,” he said. “It’s sad that kids are going to remember this Christmas by Cyclone Jasper and the floods and not by the spirit and excitement of this time of year.”
Starting at 9 am at Hemingway’s Brewery, you can enjoy the festive atmosphere with carol singers, complimentary candy canes, and, of course, a warm welcome from Santa. He'll be ready to greet everyone with open arms for the annual Christmas photo. Furry friends are also encouraged to join, to ensure no family member is excluded.
The occasion is the perfect example of a small community banding together during a tough time, with everyone involved donating their time and resources for the greater good. “It’s been great to see so many want to help out, especially Hemingway’s who have donated the space and even Coles and Woolworths donating candy and treats,” Mr Laskey said.
Santa Claus will be at Hemingway’s Brewery from 9am-12pm Saturday December 23rd h. Please bring along your phone or camera for photos to be taken on.
