His much talked about wave park concept may have encountered current hurdles but that hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm nor wavered the determination of the man behind one of the Shire’s most anticipated future projects.

NorthBreak founder and director Dave Imgraben last spoke to Newsport in October where he outlined a number of key goals for the development including an ambition to officially start the project by April to June of this year.

However, as it stands the matter is still in the hands of the Planning and Environment Court.

“Once again, I’m somewhat limited in what I can and can’t say, except to reinforce my position that I remain as driven as ever to ensure the wave park becomes a reality,” Mr Imgraben told Newsport.

“We’ve put a lot of hard work into this, and we can’t wait until it comes to fruition.

“In saying that, we thoroughly respect the court process and we will do everything by the book to get this thing off the ground.”

More than six months ago the lodged appeal tendered collectively by Douglas Shire sustainability group, and individual appellants Colin Musson, Renata Musson, Josh Gibson and Hilary Kuhn stated “The proposed development is inconsistent with the community expectation in the locality in light of the serious non-compliances with (the) planning scheme, particularly in relation to the loss of rural land”.

(Such as) “built form and height which is not contemplated by the rural zone, loss and fragmentation of good quality agricultural land and adverse impacts on the land use, concerns around adequate infrastructure servicing and potential ecological, water, amenity, flooding and traffic impacts.”

Mr Imgraben said he was “delighted” when told by Newsport that buyers had purportedly recently purchased real estate in the Douglas Shire on the back of the wave park one day being fully operational.
