Points of interest

• Rachel Carson was an American marine biologist and became a pioneering environmentalist when she wrote “Silent Spring” in 1962. Her writings drove policy change and were the seeds of the growing movement towards sustainability we see today. In 1997, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority honoured her by annexing the northern section of Escape Reef, north of Port Douglas, and renaming it Rachel Carson Reef.
• The first community-shared solar power in a residential development in Queensland. In a ground-breaking agreement between the Body Corporate and Juice Capital (providing the highest quality solar infrastructure and batteries) and South Street Energy, owners save on power costs, have zero maintenance costs while having the security of grid connection. Known as an embedded network, this will hopefully be the first of other residential and commercial properties in the Douglas Shire to take up solar power without the usual capital and maintenance costs.
• The solar power generated is estimated to provide 60-80% of power required, and will replace grid power with an offset of approximately 199,326 tonnes of CO2, the equivalent of taking over 3,500 cars off the road for the life of the installation (initially 25 years). This is about 1 car for every person currently living in Port Douglas.
• The newest project from the acclaimed Morris Family, renowned for thoughtfully designed projects with over 50 years of successful property developments in Port Douglas.
• Represents the pinnacle in contemporary design where architecture becomes art. Designed and constructed to appreciate the environment with a focus on sustainable development.
