Senior gardening maestro cultivates joy at local aged care centre
SENIORS WRAP

At Kubirri Aged Care Centre in Mossman a resident named Charlie is cultivating more than just plants, he's sowing seeds of happiness among staff and residents.
Charlie, a devoted gardener and resident of the Memory Support Unit, has not only transformed the garden under his green-thumb guidance, but also cultivated a cheerful atmosphere.
Lettuce beds have flourished, beetroot has thrived, and strawberries have ripened to perfection, all while Charlie consistently wears a big smile on his face.
As a Mossman local Charlie has deep roots in the area, having grown up and attended school here.
Charlie’s love of gardening is inspired by his father, who always had vegetable gardens when Charlie was growing up.
He loves to share his gardening wisdom with others. From the Centre's staff members to his fellow residents, everyone benefits from his tips and tricks.
One of his valuable insights is a cautionary reminder: overwatering lettuce can lead to yellowing leaves
The Memory Support Unit at Kubirri, where Charlie lives, provides residents with a supportive home environment where they can live a life with choice, yet with measures in place to help keep residents safe.
Staff are more present in this unit and give residents the extra love and care they may need.
The other residents and staff love to admire the lush greenery and colours within Charlie’s garden, and Charlie is proud to show the rewards of his labour to those at the Centre.
