COMMENT: Lack of Daintree Ferry transparency beyond frustrating - Mason
VEIL OF SECRECY

COMMENT - Lawrence Mason
Today, only 18 hours or so before a planned protest outside DSC offices I’m told that Mayor Michael Kerr will be on ABC radio Far North tomorrow morning around 7.30am to announce some sort of ferry closure.
I was under the impression Councilors were going to workshop the closure after tomorrow’s meeting.
We already know that DSC plans to announce some sort of shutdown of the Daintree Ferry to replace Davits; davits that have broken because the new ramps, engineered by DSC rather than a marine architect, are allegedly two tons heavier.
Why wasn’t the community consulted before this?
Why do we have to hear rumours about a Council meeting with Emergency Services?
Why do we have to suffer the stress of wondering how this latest debacle affects us? Will it be six weeks or six days or some other disaster?
Would it not be better to advise the community via email groups and the Council website?
Do we now have to listen to ABC radio to find out what DSC is doing? It just isn’t good enough. Not even close….
Thank you!
