Heartbreak as man dies following afternoon crash on Captain Cook Highway

In a heartbreaking development Queensland Police have confirmed a 51-year-old Clifton Beach man has died as a result of a motorbike accident earlier this afternoon at Mowbray.

Police said at around 12.50pm the motorcyclist was travelling with a group of motorcyclists along the Captain Cook Highway between Pebbly Beach Drive and Trezise Road before the rider separated from his bike. 

Police said Forensic Crash Unit officers continue to investigate how and why the accident occurred.

Police have appealed for any witnesses or motorists with relevant dashcam vision to come forward to assist with their investigations.

The Captain Cook Highway between Port Douglas and Cairns remained closed for a number of hours this afternoon while Police personnel opened their initial investigation into the matter.
