In our community that practically buzzes with artistic vibes, local talents are about to break free from their creative cocoons and bask in the spotlight. The stage is set for an exciting upcoming exhibition, aptly named ‘EXPOSED’, where the artistic talent of 25 local artists will take centre stage.

Expectations are running high as ‘EXPOSED’ promises a showcase of high-quality artworks, encompassing a wide array of themes and styles.

This exhibition dares artists to break free from their comfort zones, encouraging them to experiment with new styles and mediums.

Behind the scenes, the organisation responsible for this artistic spectacle is Port Douglas Artist Inc., a collective of artists specialising in a wide range of mediums.

PDA Inc. holds a unique position in our region as the sole professional artists group, serving as a platform for networking and abundant exhibition opportunities.

The group is most notably known for their successful annual GoTroppo exhibitions at Port Douglas Sugar Wharf during the Carnivale long weekend, along with the biennial ‘Call of the Running Tide’ environmental art festival.

Originally founded by the late Jill Booth, PDA Inc. unites local artists and offers them exhibition and creative opportunities. Their mission is to support regional professional artists and showcase their work.

Unique artistic showcase

‘EXPOSED’ introduces us to some of these remarkable talents, including Tim Ellis, a multimedia artist who specialises in paint, digital media, video, and projection art.

As one of the exhibition’s coordinators, Mr Ellis highlights what sets ‘EXPOSED’ apart from previous PDA Inc. group showcases, promising an artistic experience unlike any other.

“Diversity in creating something new is the force behind this upcoming show that promises to be a captivating celebration of creativity,” he explained.

“Notable participants include environmental artist Jill Chism, abstract painter Jacqueline Joosen, landscape artist Chrissie McLaughlin, weaver Rosey Cummings and ceramicist Sam Matthews.

“Plus, we are delighted to also include renowned fashion and textile designer, Linda Jackson, who has produced new works specially for this show.

“Visitors are invited not only to appreciate the artwork but also to explore the stories and motivations that lie beneath each piece.

“Furthermore, all the artwork featured will be available for purchase, giving attendees a chance to own a piece of this diverse and innovative artistic expression.”

While the exhibition finds its home at the Port Douglas Community Hall, thanks to the Council's generous support, Mr Ellis harbours a grander aspiration for the future - the establishment of a local regional gallery.

“Such a venue wouldn’t just serve our community but would also enhance the cultural tapestry of our region, offering a richer experience for our valued visitors,” Mr Ellis concluded.

The opening champagne event kicks off on September 15 at 5.30pm at the Douglas Shire Community Hall in Mowbray Street, Port Douglas. The exhibition runs from September 15 to September 29, open daily from 10am to 4pm
