A number of towns across the Douglas Shire should have their power restored in the next 30 minutes to an hour after waking up to no electricity this morning.

“Ergon Energy crews are working on emergency repairs after a tree fell on a section of the high-voltage network,” an Ergon Energy spokesperson told Newsport just moments ago.

“1951 customers lost power at 5:39am and crews are working to have power safely restored by 10am if all goes to plan.

“Customers in the following areas were affected by the emergency outage: Bonnie Doon, Cooya Beach, Daintree, Miallo, Mossman, Newell, North Mossman, Rocky Point, Whyanbeel and Wonga Beach.

“We thank everyone for their patience while crews fix the damage.

"If people ever see powerlines down they should stay well away and report them to emergency services on 000 or Ergon on 13 16 70.”
