Wujal Wujal students to continue schooling thanks to kindness of Cooktown PCYC
SCHOOL MATTERS

The aftermath of last December’s cyclone and flood events have provided a range of ongoing logistical issues for many Douglas Shire residents.
However, despite various levels of setbacks locals continue to support each other in the most trying of circumstances.
This time our friends in the neighbouring Cook Shire have helped some Douglas Shire based school children ensure their schooling isn’t disrupted in the first weeks of the new school year.
A short time ago Cooktown PCYC staff members and other helpers set up the local PCYC as a temporary school so 14 Wujal Wujal primary school students can still receive lessons and regular schooling.
The need to relocate students to Cooktown comes after Wujal Wujal Primary School suffered a range of flood damage during last December’s heavy rain event making it impossible to hold lessons in the students’ regular classrooms.
