The Reef Raiders rugby union club has a new president, with Port Douglas sports store owner Pete Gilmore taking over from much-loved former president Travis Gooch for season 2026.

Gilmore says he has much to live up to.

”Hopefully I can do half the job Travis has done, he’s been amazing for the last four years,” Gilmour says.

“He’s still going to be involved, and we’ve got a good committee, so hopefully not too much will change.”

Gilmour, who also runs Sportspower on Macrossan Street, says he is keen to keep all the current players and support staff involved with the club, while also trying to attract more locals to become involved.

“It’s a great experience, a wonderful ground and good club culture, so hopefully we get more people to buy into it.”

Gilmour is keen to start reaching out to people who may have drifted away from community sport and help find new ways to make it easier for people to become more involved, he says.

He is looking at organising some social events early in the season to try and get more people down, such as a touch football competition.
