Extended night closures kick off on the first of Douglas Shire's main roads

Douglas Shire road users have thankfully been spared night road closures so far this tourism high season, but that is about to change.
This Tuesday (July 29) night the Mossman-Mount Molloy Road will be closed to traffic for 25 minutes at a time from 8pm-4am for critical slope-stabilisation works.
The State Government Traffic and Main Roads Department (TMR) has previously said night closures will be necessary on several main roads in the area before the end of the year, including Captain Cook Highway.
The landslip site being repaired is about 1.5km from the Mossman-Mount Molloy Road Lookout towards Mossman, and requires more soil-nailing work.
On Tuesday night, Mossman-Mount Molloy Road users can expect delays of up to 25 minutes at traffic control points, with single-lane traffic control in place when the road is open.
“Intermittent road closures of 25 minutes are being implemented to balance road user access while allowing works to be completed safely where the only other alternative for repairs would require the road to completely close overnight,” TMR states.
TMR is asking road users to plan around the night works and has made arrangements with emergency services to provide access for their vehicles.
