Crocs to face up to former power of the AFL
AFL Cairns
The Port Douglas Crocs will have an extra headache to contend with when they take on the Cairns Saints in Cairns tomorrow - former AFL champion Charlie Dixon.
Dixon, 34, who is originally from Cairns before going on to play 221 games for Port Adelaide and Gold Coast, is returning to his junior club to play a game alongside his brother Jesse.
The imposing forward will make a strong target up forward for the Saints, who currently sit in fifth on a congested AFL Cairns table.
The Crocs moved to top last weekend after a strong win against Trinity Bulldogs.
The 2020 All-Australian, who now plays for Lobethal in Adelaide's Hills Football League, played in the Saints’ 2007 grand final at age 17 - the same year Port had a record 119-point grand final loss to the team with the same guernsey design as the Crocs - Geelong.
This was the last grand final Dixon played in, despite kicking more than 300 AFL goals, with Port making three preliminary finals during his time there, but not being able to go further.
The Saints versus Crocs match is on at Griffiths Park, Manunda, Saturday, June 28, at 5.30pm as part of Pride Round.
The afternoon kicks off with the women's match at 2pm.
