Magic Miallo mural captures Rainforest to Reef
Miallo State School
If a picture tells a thousand words… then the stunning new mural at Miallo State School is a novel.
Created by Townsville artist Katie Louise Bigg over the past few weeks, the brilliantly colourful mural is titled Rainforest to Reef.
The mural at Miallo has been quick to turn heads, with dozens of comments posted on social media.
“It’s stunning. Just saw it for the first time dropping my daughter off. Great job,’’ said Rachel Smith.
But the real test of the work and Katie’s talent was down to students Alex, Boe, Eleanor and Heidi who each had their say on their favourite parts of the mural.
Alex, 6, said: “Probably the cassowary, yeah, I like cassowaries.”
“I like the fishy, the nemo,’’ said Boe, 6, “Because he gets lost and then he finds his grown-ups again and then, yeah.”
Eleanor, 9, said her favourite part is the ulysses butterfly “because we get them a lot at our house…I live in the country.”
“My favourite part is probably the turtle because I like the colours that we used,’’ added Heidi, 11, explaining that students helped choose the pictures.
“We did like a survey, sort of thing, like what animals we wanted to see on the mural.”
Professional mural artist Ms Bigg last year created 40 works for Far North Queensland schools, industry, workplaces, private homes and businesses and continues to look for some more large-scale projects.
"I had the pleasure of bringing this rainforest-to -eef theme to life for their beautiful little school, with animals chosen by the students and school community," Ms Bigg said.
"The students, teachers and staff were so supportive and encouraging throughout the whole process.
It was a joy to create and I hope the school community enjoys the mural for many years to come."
