Arrest after car races along Captain Cook Highway on wheel rims
Police News
A 39-year-old man has been arrested following an incident where a stolen car with no front tyres was driven faster than 100km/h along the Captain Cook Highway.
Police set down tyre-deflation devices on Dunne Road, Smithfield, to intercept a stolen Toyota Hilux just before 9am on Monday (May 12).
Both front tyres came off the car, but the driver kept going on rims only along the highway all the way to Holloways Beach.
The car was dumped there and the driver fled on foot to a home at Hickory Street, where an arrest was made.
Police said the man was charged with the dangerous operation of a car while having a prior conviction, the unlawful use of a motor vehicle, drug driving, and unlicensed driving.
He has refused bail and was due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today (May 13).
