Atherton SES gets big share of grant funds
SES Funding

The Atherton SES depot is among 32 SES groups to share in nearly $2m in grants to boost disaster response capability announced by the State Government at the weekend.
In total, 32 SES groups from areas as far west as Doomadgee to the south at the Gold Coast, will share in $1.97m in funding through the SES Support Grant initiative.
Successful applicants will receive grants to assist in the buying of new vehicles, the establishment of new centres, upgrades to training sites and security improvements.
Key SES initiatives earned nominations from local Queensland councils and include the single biggest grant of $225,000 for vehicle replacements going to the Atherton SES depot.
Police and Emergency Services Minister Dan Purdie said these grants were an investment in the state’s resilience, helping the SES respond and support the community in times of crisis.
“Our SES groups play a critical role in natural disasters and our Government is pleased to be able to boost capability ahead of the next major weather event,” Minister Purdie said.
“These grants will help ensure SES groups are armed with the essentials to help them continue to perform their great work to keep communities safe, right across Queensland.”
Other grants were allocated as follows:
- $150,000 for the establishment of a SES facility in Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council
- More than $123,000 for sand pit structures in Babinda, Edmonton, Machans Beach, Buchan Point, Gordonvale and Holloways Beach
- More than $123,000 for revitalising and reinforcement of the Ingham SES building
- More than $95,000 for vehicle replacements for the Yeppoon SES depot
- Nearly $40,000 for an ATV and trailer for the Quilpie/Eromanga SES depot
- More than $86,000 for automatic security gate upgrades at Goodna SES depot.
