Sea Circus brings community and circus arts together
SHOW AT OAKS

It’s surprising how many unique events happen in our small Shire, many you might not even know are on. One of them is happening this Friday at Oaks Port Douglas Resort, where Sea Circus Productions will bring together silk, fire, and flavour for a night of circus performance and dining.
Behind the show is a group of passionate locals, united by their love for the arts and the natural beauty of our region.
Formed in early 2024, Sea Circus has quickly become known across the Douglas Shire for its community involvement and performances inspired by the local environment.
Leading the group is Vanessa Lyn Carey, a multi-talented local with a passion for circus arts, marine biology, and community.
Her background in aerial performance, watersports, and science gives Sea Circus its distinctive style.
Vanessa is the creative force behind the group’s vision; drawing inspiration from the Daintree, the Reef, and the landscapes that surround them.
“Being on the water has always been a part of my life,” Vanessa said. “The reef and the rainforest give us endless ideas for performances and stories.”
That vision will come to life on Friday, May 2, from 6pm to 9pm, as Sea Circus takes over Oaks Resort with a show featuring aerials, fire dancing, LED performance, and contortion - all staged between courses of a three-course meal.
On the menu: a scallop entrée, Redspot Emperor main, and chocolate mousse dessert.
It’s a night that brings together local talent, local flavour, and a deep appreciation for the place we call home.
