The future of filmmaking will be showcased at the inaugural Reel Futures Film Festival at the Clink Theatre tomorrow.

Organised by the Port Shorts crew, the Reel Futures Film Festival attracted more than 320 entries from our own backyard and around the world, with close to 40 finalist short films to be screened on the night.

Festival coordinator Greg McLean said the exceptional talents of Far North Queensland student filmmakers will be on display alongside national and international entries from as far afield as Ukraine, Switzerland and Iran.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the quality of the short films entered, their stories are incredible and it’s inspiring to see the next generation of filmmakers flourish,” he said.

“If you love movies and storytelling I strongly urge you to come along.”

Reel Futures is also organising workshops on the day for more than 70 FNQ students involving Hollywood heavyweights XM2, festival ambassadors Matt Hearn and Stephen Curry, AACTA Industry Development Manager Ivan Vukusic, producer Kate Boylan-Ascione and the Shake and Stir Theatre Company.

The Reel Futures Film Festival will screen at the Clink Theatre from 6.30pm on Friday, September 12.

Tickets are $12.50 from events.humanitix.com/reel-futures but seating is limited so book early. For more information email [email protected].
