Brand new look for Pebbly Beach unveiled by TMR

Plans for the new-look Pebbly Beach have been released by the State Government - and the boulevard-of-palms concept now appears to be consigned to the history books.
The designs, which the Transport and Main Roads Department (TMR) stresses are subject to change if needed, include large culverts to run water under the road, a combination of native trees and palms between the road and the beach, and a large rock wall running parallel with Captain Cook Highway.
Douglas Shire’s world famous “road to paradise” was changed forever last month after the coconut palms along the pristine stretch of highway were removed to make way for the road repairs.

Pictured on poster shots for the region for many years, the Captain Cook Highway next to Pebbly Beach is currently barren of vegetation.
But the reconstruction works have started this week, including slope stabilisation and installing more than half a kilometre of rock wall.
“Once reconstruction works to stabilise the road corridor are complete, TMR will revegetate the site and restore beach access,” a statement reads.
Night works from 6pm-6am are set to coincide with low tides from this week until early July, subject to weather conditions.
There are no full-road closures expected, but temporary traffic lights will be in place there until at least mid July.
Known for its smooth pebbles and scenic views, Pebbly Beach runs along Captain Cook Highway between Yule Point and White Cliffs.
