The Douglas Shire community is mourning the passing of Dr. Louise Bleier.

As one of the founders of New Horizons for Health, Dr. Bleier served the region as a dedicated practitioner for many years, leaving a lasting impact on local healthcare and the families she cared for.

A memorial service to honour her life and professional contribution will be held at 4pm on Saturday, 11 April 2026, at Rex Smeal Park, Port Douglas, where family, friends, and patients are invited to gather and share their remembrances.

The gathering will be held outdoors, and attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic rug or chair for comfort and an umbrella or gazebo in the event of light rain. If the weather is significantly wet, the service will be relocated to the Port Douglas Community Hall on Mowbray Street, opposite the Clink Theatre.

Last-minute updates regarding the venue will be posted via New Horizons for Health messages and on the Port Douglas, Mossman and Douglas Shire News and Views Facebook page.

During the service, there will be an opportunity for guests to speak. Those who wish to have their words shared by the host, Anna Soltwedel, may provide their tributes to her in person before the service or via email at [email protected].

The family has requested that no flowers be brought on the day. For those who wish to make a gesture in Louise’s memory, an optional donation may be made to KIND (Kind.org.au), a cause chosen in recognition of her lifelong care for children.

The family and the team at New Horizons for Health thank the community for their support and for honouring Dr. Bleier’s memory at this time.
