It is usually the case when a photographer goes to snap your picture they say “now smile” to the subjects… but Newsport’s photographers have not had much need for that prompt judging by the latest edition of the FREE paper hitting the streets today.

It is good news almost across the board for Douglas Shire in its community newspaper, with brighter results for our tourism operations and strong hope for that continuing making the splash… front page in news lingo!

There’s smiles from developers of Wonga’s new multi-million dollar resort getting preliminary approval, and with a Craiglea industrial park getting approval from Douglas Shire Council, some more positive development on the business front.

There is no wiping the smile off the face of Mossman musical theatre performer Angela Brischetto who has landed a lead role in Six the Musical and there is plenty to smile about - or at least a sigh of relief - with the latest update on the Noah Creek Bridge build.

The often talked about Port Douglas Splash Park has been putting smiles on the faces of young ones for a while, and now gets a big tick being judged Queensland’s best new play space by Parks and Leisure Australia.

Some who haven’t been smiling are those caught out by Creb Track in recent times but a stack of comments and letters in our You Said It page - particularly on the homecoming of a special little dog - and a host of bright and fun social pics will lift even those challenged drivers.

In sport, our man Matt Sheppard is smiling after setting an Australian record in competition in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and there seems nothing can keep the smile off the faces of the undefeated Port Douglas Crocs, belting the reigning premiers and with a goal kicking milestone for a key forward.

And maybe the biggest smile was left for last in the latest edition… for Mossman teenager Sandon Kerswell who has stunned in international motocross competition.
