Cooya Beach basketballer Khyjuan Walker is getting set for the adventure of his young lifetime, with a tour of US colleges on the horizon.

The small forward, 18, has enrolled in the Strive basketball program, which is touring the US in May and July.

In May, those selected for the program visit Des Moines, Iowa, and Kansas City, Missouri, while in July the selected players go to Nashville, Tennessee, and Chicago, Illinois.

Khyjuan says he wants to do all he can to have the best chance of playing professional basketball.

“I feel a bit nervous but I’m just going to keep training, working hard, and then, just trust the process,” Khyjuan says.

“I’d really love to, but at the end of the day if I can’t, well, it’s alright.”

If things work out on his first US tour, he will definitely try out for a US college scholarship, he says.

And there are also some other key take-outs he is looking forward to during the tour.

“Probably the food, and the experience, of course,” he says.

Which food in particular?

“Pizzas.”

The young 188cm Cooya local has previously been selected to play representative basketball for the Cairns Marlins, and is currently playing senior and under-19s division one in Cairns.
